Lower-Level Kitchenette/Storage Refurbish and Remodel

complete!

Our lower-level kitchenette area was in sad shape and getting worse with time. Old buildings have a way of sagging, shifting, and moving in ways that aren’t very kind to old plaster and LATHE-CONSTRUCTED walls. in addition to bringing back it’s original beauty, Our goal was to bring this LOWER-LEVEL space up to today’s standards of safety and usability.

Because the James Memorial building is listed as a historic building, we asked for and recieved guidance from the ND state Historical Society on how we could proceed.

Here’s what we were dealing with:

And here’s what we did!

  1. Remove plaster and lathe from north wall and wall on south hallway and replace with sheetrock - complete!

  2. Repair other cracks in room - complete!

  3. Paint - complete!

  4. Repair chimney - complete!

  5. Remove carpet and resurface floor - COMPLETE!

  6. Have permanent steps installed - complete!

  7. install new lighting, remove old electrical, move outlets - COMPLETE!

  8. Install new counter top, lower cupboards, sink - COMPLETE!

  9. Install closed storage cupboards to replace metal shelving - COMPLETE!

  10. Refurbish wood built-in cupboard - COMPLETE!
